ALPHA COURSES usually begin with a kickoff banquet and then meet weekly from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Dinner is included.

What Is Alpha?

The Alpha Course is a program which runs over ten weeks to provide a practical introduction to the Christian faith. It offers the opportunity to explore the meaning of life and ask questions. Questions like ... What is the point of life?... What happens when we die?... What relevance does Jesus have for our lives today?... How do we deal with guilt?... we all have questions.

Typical evening schedule:
6.00pm - Preparation Meeting - The team meet to pray and prepare while the task force set out the chairs, prepare the dinner etc.
6:30pm - Dinner is served and the people arrive. They eat supper and sit with their small groups.
7:10pm - Welcome - A welcome from the leader (perhaps even, a joke!) and any notices are given out.
7:20pm - Singing
7:25pm - Talk
8.05pm - Coffee Break
8:10pm - Small Groups - People split up into their small groups. The small groups consist of around 12 people. One person or a married couple lead and others help. This is a time when the people in the group can study the Bible, discuss the talk, and ask questions. As the weeks progress the group may also feel that it would like to pray together.
9.00pm - End - It helps to keep the ending time the same so that people know what time they can expect to get home.

This course is a practical introduction to the basics of Christianity with lots of opportunity for debate and discussion. The style of Alpha is informal, friendly and non-pressured. Alpha is enjoyed and appreciated as much by those who have never set foot in a church as it is by those who once attended and by the regular churchgoer. No matter what their background, whether investigating Christianity for the first time or revisiting their faith, participants get a lot out of an Alpha Course.
